Stakeholders Breakfast

Date TBD
7:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Mount Wachusett Community College
444 Green Street Gardner, MA 01440

This annual convening of UWYV program partners, including education leaders and key leaders in the continuum of K-12 to higher education, creates a unique opportunity to share a brain trust in consideration of weighty issues directly affecting students. More than ever, educators feel the relentless strain to drive attention to academic and core learning, while facing seeming endless flow of mental/behavioral health needs—a daily reality that often clashes with academic plans.

Join us!

  1. Hear recent wins resulting from UWYV’s emphasis on mental/behavioral health with K-14 youth
  2. Share ideas, encouragement, resources, and support each other as leaders
  3. Identify opportunities for meaningful partnerships, mutually filling previously unmet needs
  4. Ensure our local representatives understand pressing needs and preferences

Previous Year’s Breakfast

In February, 2024, we centered our discussion on the central question:

Is it School’s responsibility to address mental/behavioral health?

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Schools have absorbed tremendous responsibility for youth mental/behavioral health in recent years, which has tremendous impact on teaching and learning, teacher training, guidance departments and more.

  1. Should this responsibility lie with the schools, or should it look different?
  2. Do teachers and staff feel appropriately trained/equipped to manage the mental health needs of students today?
  3. Do/Should community organizations share some responsibility for servicing students in school?
  4. Does the MassCore curriculum provide adequate time and space to allow for students to explore passions, interests, careers, and address mental health needs?
  5. Have funding increases supported the mental health demands that exist today?
